Verse: Matt 10:26-27
So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.

Devotion
In these two verses, Jesus is telling his disciples not to fear those that will persecute them. Whatever harm comes to them will not be covered up but will be revealed throughout history and at the end times when justice will be done. He wants them to boldly go out into the public and declare the good news.

In the US, we do not fear for our lives if we speak about Jesus. But we may fear that we will be laughed at or shunned as weirdos. We may just feel uncomfortable talking about our faith. We don’t have the right words. And we don’t want to drive them away with a poor approach.

We need to see these as excuses that faith in God can overcome. Jesus is telling us not to be afraid to tell others about Him. If you were a doctor and you found out that your patient had cancer, would you not tell him because it could upset him or would you tell him that there is a cure. I know it can feel more complicated than that but there is some truth that we are keeping good news from those that are struggling with life.

God told Moses that He would give him the words to say (Exodus 4:12). Jesus told the disciples that the Holy Spirit will teach them, at the very time that they need to speak, what to say. The Holy Spirit can do that for us also. It’s more a matter of faith that God is with us than it is about the right words to say.

The next time you are in a situation where you need to speak about the Lord, remember Matthew 10:26-27, “So do not be afraid…proclaim from the roofs.”

Prayer
Dear Lord, please give us the faith that you are always with us and are helping us speak the truth in love about you. Help us not to be afraid but to recognize that the person we are with also needs you.
