Verse: John 17:15-18
15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

Thoughts
Has anyone ever sent you to do something? A friend? A boss? A spouse? Have you ever, on the way, forgotten what you were sent to do?

The thing is, you don’t normally get “sent” to do nothing right? Mandy has never said to me, for instance, “Can you go to a store for me?” “Which store honey?” “Not telling you.” “What should I get there?” “Not telling you.” “Ohhhhhkaayy.”

Normally when someone sends you to do something, there is a reason, and you know you are done when you complete the task!

Jesus says here, “As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.” Think about that.

What does he mean? Do you feel like you’ve been sent? Do you live with an awareness of that “sent-ness?” Do you know what you’ve been sent to do? Do you ever get distracted from this call? Like when you go to the grocery store to get milk, and you come home with 10 other things…and NO milk!?

This is a radical, life-changing, concept. You aren’t just living this life for yourself, getting by day to day, hoping to make good money, and die happy. You are actually here on a mission. You are here, if you choose to be a follower of Jesus, as a “sent one: one who is sent.” Jesus is no longer on earth physically, so he has sent us to represent him to a broken and hurting world.

That is my encouragement to you this morning. You matter. You have a purpose in this life. You are called by God. He has sent you to this world to show them his love and his character. Do you know this?

Prayer
God I pray that I would know that I am sent by you. I pray that you would reveal to my heart how I am called to live this out on a day to day basis.
