Verse: Ephesians 2:6-7
6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Devotion
Do you ever think of God as being kind? I think it is more natural to think of God as loving, or powerful, or wise—but kindness is something I don’t associate with God as readily.

And this kindness of God isn’t some trivial matter. Read those words again: “that he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us.” His kindness to us shows us how much grace he has for us, how much goodness he has for us, how much care he shows for us. Paul can’t even find enough words to express the magnitude of this grace, so he says “incomparable riches.” Some other translations say

“surpassing riches” (BLB)

“incredible wealth” (NLT)

“boundless riches” (NASB)

“immeasurable riches” (ESV)

“limitless riches” (ISV)

It reminds me of when my kids were younger and they would tell me they loved me, and I would say “not as much as I love you!” And then we’d have a competition. They’d say, “I love you more than than a million!” I love you more than a billion!” “I love you more than all the way to the moon and back!” I love you more than all the planets and back!” And so on. Basically—the love I have for my kids is immeasurable.

And I’m just a broken, sinful, greedy, selfish, finite human. I wonder how much more God loves us?

Today, I want you to try a spiritual practice: Finding God’s Kindness. Seriously. I want you to look for God’s kindness in your life. You may find it in the eyes of a loved one, or in the words of Scripture, or in the beauty of the outdoors, or in the melody of a worship song. You may look at circumstances in your life and think, “thank you God – that is so kind of you.” Spend some time today looking, and being grateful, for God’s kindness in your life.

Prayer
Thank you Jesus for the surpassing, immeasurable, limitless, boundless grace you have shown my through your kindness.
