Verse: Isaiah 26:3-4
You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.
Devotion
Does your mind ever wander to worst case scenarios? Or does it ever ruminate — obsessing over something you said or did, or something that’s in the future, circling it over and over again with worry and without any resolution? Does your mind play the “what if” game with you? “What if that doesn’t work out? What if you can’t hack it? What if you lose them?”
There are so many ways that, without some self control, we can allow our minds to wander into unhelpful and unproductive territory. I know this has been my experience. When I’m tired or stressed, and I have less ability to have some self control, my thoughts can easily get the best of me. They will lead me to worry, anxiety and fear.
I think that’s why this verse talks about our minds being steadfast and trusting the Lord. When we are steadfast in what we allow our minds to focus on, it can really change our experience of the world around us. Paul says it this way: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” (Philippians 4:8).
And as our minds are steadfast on God, we can choose to trust the Lord. There is something powerful about trusting God with our past, our present, and our future. Trusting God doesn’t always mean trusting him everything will go the way we hope either. Sometimes trusting God means trusting he will walk with us even when our worries do come true. We trust he will be with us. We trust that he will lead us. And we trust that he will comfort and strengthen us. Most of all we trust that he is the “Rock” of our lives. That nothing shakes him. And that we can rely on him wholly.

Thank you Jesus that you are trustworthy. I choose to place my trust in you, and set my mind on you.
