Verse: 2 Peter 1:3-4
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Devotion
This is a pretty incredible promise to hold onto. I don’t know about you, but there are definitely times when I don’t feel adequately prepared or fully capable for all that life is demanding of me, let alone “leading a godly life.” Do you ever feel that way?

One of my favorite scenes from the life of Jesus is when Satan is tempting him in the wilderness (Matthew 4). In response to every temptation Jesus responds, “It is written” and then quotes from the Word of God. He finds solace and strength in the Truth. He stands on the Word of God because he knows that “the word of the Lord endures forever” (1 Peter 1:25).

I wonder if I have the same confidence in the Word that Jesus has? Do you?

If so, when we feel inadequate, weak, unprepared, or overwhelmed, can we say with Jesus, “It is written…his divine power has given [me] everything [I] need for a godly life.” Can we have full confidence in the power of God to give us everything we need? To give us wisdom? Strength? Compassion? Endurance? Self control?

What do you need today? Where do you feel a lack? Can we look to Jesus today to be our source of all things we need to live a godly life? Let’s look to him today. Let’s stand on his Word and “his very great and precious promises.”
