Scripture: 2 Peter 3:1-2
“Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.”

Devotion:
As the we continue in the book of 2 Peter, Peter is still writing to believers, reminding them of the importance of God’s Word and continuous need to stay grounded in its truth. In today’s verses, Peter emphasizes the significance of remembering the words spoken by the holy prophets and the commandments given by Jesus through the apostles.

As followers of Christ, we must be constantly reminded of the truths found in God’s Word. We live in a fallen world, filled with distractions and lies. It can be so easy to lose sight of what is just & true. Peter understood this, he knew the struggle of living in a broken world.  He wrote his letters to serve as reminders to believers to keep our thinking set on the Lord.

The words spoken by the holy prophets and the commandments given by Jesus through the apostles are not suggestions or “guidelines”. They are the very words of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and meant to guide us in our lives every single day. They provide us with wisdom, direction, truth, and comfort in times of uncertainty.

When we recall and meditate on the truth found in God’s Word, our minds are renewed, and our thinking becomes aligned with God’s. We are reminded of His faithfulness, His promises, and His love for us. This, in turn, leads us to live lives that honor and glorify Him.

As we navigate through life, let us not neglect the power and gift of God’s Word. Let us be intentional in studying and meditating on it, allowing it to shape our thoughts, attitudes, and actions. Let us remember the words spoken by the prophets and the commandments given by Jesus, for they are a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105).

Prayer: Lord, let  us hear Peter’s reminder to renew our minds by recalling and embracing the truths found in Your Word. Guide us to be diligent in studying and applying Your teachings, allowing it to guide our every step. Thank You for the precious gift of Your Word. Help us to never take it for granted but to treasure. Give us a hunger and thirst for Your truth, and help us to live in alignment with Your commandments. May Your Word shape our thoughts, attitudes, and actions, and may we be a reflection of Your love and grace to the world around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
