Verse: Matthew 6: 9-10
9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Devotion
The act of praying, especially when done aloud, has always intimidated me a bit. Do I have the right words? Have I balanced my requests with gratitude? Who is listening? I admire people who readily volunteer to pray aloud. A starting point can truly be helpful when navigating prayerful language. Who better to learn from than God Himself?

This verse in Matthew directs our attention to whom we are addressing our prayers, and that is God only, who is in Heaven. “Hallowed” is an older term that describes the holy and sacred nature of our Father. We are commanded to address Him with the honor and respect He deserves. Acknowledgement of this reverence focuses our prayer. We are praying to someone who is all mighty, all knowing, and completely capable of listening to our needs in that very moment. We have His attention whenever we call. Who else is this accessible?

Next, we must submit to God’s will, His timing, and His plan. He has promised He will bring his kingdom as it is in heaven to earth. God has ultimately taken care of our sins through the death and resurrection of Jesus, but this world is full of turmoil as we wait. We know that one day we will experience true peace with His return. Of course, we are uncertain of the timeline, but through our prayer language, we can accept this as truth and give the control to God.

Prayer
Dear Jesus, let us be encouraged by your guidelines. Let us not be bogged down with the need for perfection when we pray and direct our focus to you. You are the listener and the provider. Considering your holiness, help us to remember to seek you throughout our day. Help us to engage with you with ease so we can experience your peace and guidance.
