Verse: Matthew 9:37-38
“Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”

Devotion:
This passage has always hit me hard. It was true 2000 years ago and it’s still true today. Jesus paints the picture of the spiritual landscape around us. He speaks of a harvest that is abundant, ripe for gathering, yet highlights the reality of the situation: the workers are few. There was, and still is, so much work to be done but not enough workers to help. This metaphor is used to reminds us that there is a great need for laborers in the Kingdom of God. Each day, countless lives are yearning for hope, healing, and truth. They are walking around without knowing the truth of Jesus every single day. They are like fields waiting to be tended, nurtured, and ultimately brought to fruition. You and I are the ones that can help in the harvest. We can be the light Jesus has called us to be, to look different in a dark and desperate world. We can share the name of Jesus with people who need hope.

It’s so easy to get settled into an everyday routine and get comfortable. Let’s be honest and ask ourselves: Are we even aware of the spiritual needs around us? Do we see the people in our lives—our families, friends, coworkers, and even strangers—as potential fields ready to be harvested? Do we pray for the lost in our lives? Jesus urges us to recognize the urgency of the situation. There is work to be done, and it requires our participation.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that You are the Lord of the harvest. Help me to open my eyes to the needs of those around me. Give me a heart that is compassionate and willing to serve. Help me to see opportunities around me to be a light and to share Your hope. Lord, we pray that You would raise up workers who are ready to share Your love and truth. May I be one of those workers, ready to go where You lead and to sow seeds of faith. Amen.
