Verse: ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6:18-20‬ ‭
“so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”

Devotion
The two unchangeable things that the text is referring to is the unchanging promise that God conveyed to Abraham, and the oath that confirmed it raising it above all distrust and uncertainty. Following this, the key word hope. “we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.” Biblical hope is a firm conviction that the future promises of God will be fulfilled. Biblical hope does not mean we are wishing for something, but rather an assurance of what will come.

The text goes on to say that this hope will be a steadfast anchor of the soul. This assurance is something that goes in line with the faith and love that Paul outlined. Hope is merely faith that is focused on the future; or what is to come. This hope is deeply rooted in Christ, and the faith that is required of His followers. For us to truly walk by faith, we must hold fast to that hope.

From Christ’s death to his resurrection, a situation that seemed bleak became hopeful. In addition to that, we have the Holy Spirit which sustains the hope that we have. We were wonderfully and fearfully made in his image. We need to continue to pursue him daily, as he is our place of refuge.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for all that you have done for us. You gave your life so that we can have the hope; the assurance of your promise. Please help us to continue to strengthen our spiritual disciplines. As we seek you out, Lord please meet us where we are. Help us to dig deeper into your word, to continue to strengthen our faith. Please help us to continue to lean on our brothers and sisters in Christ as we navigate your word and this life.

In your heavenly name I pray, Amen.
