Verse: Matthew 9:23-26
23 When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, 24 he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him. 25 After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. 26 News of this spread through all that region.

Devotion
It’s easy, when reading about one of Jesus’ miracles like this one, to feel like it is hard to relate to. How does this story impact my life today? I was feeling that this morning, if I’m honest, while reading this. And then some words of Jesus came to my heart: “all things are possible with God” (Matthew 19:26).

This story is a glimpse into the miraculous power of God that can do anything, even the things we think are impossible. He truly is the God of the impossible. I think for me personally, because I know that he doesn’t always do the impossible when I ask, sometimes I just end up trying to protect myself from disappointment and I don’t ask. But I’m not sure that’s the way of faith.

I would like to grow in this area. But it’s risky. Being willing to pray for things that seem impossible (or even unlikely!) means I’m putting myself out there a little. It means I’m opening myself up for disappointment. Do you know that feeling?

So as I read this I am challenged to grow in my faith personally. To be willing to pray for things that seem unlikely and then trust God with the outcome, even if it’s not exactly what I was hoping for. But the reality is, if I never put myself out there and pray those types of prayers, I limit the chances of me seeing God do the impossible in my life! Every miracle seems to start with a small step of faith, a little bit of risk, and a little bit of vulnerability.

How is God challenging you through this verse?
