Verse: Matthew 20:17-19
17 Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, 18 “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death 19 and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”

Devotion
It’s hard for people to believe—the historical fact that Jesus rose from the dead. Our entire faith is built on this truth: that God came to earth, was sacrificed, and then conquered death by rising again. But imagine being there. Imagine walking with Jesus every day, witnessing His miracles, hearing Him pray and wondering what He was saying. Imagine slowly realizing that God Himself had come down to rescue us.

In today’s passage, Jesus tells His disciples for the third time that He is going to die and rise again. Yet, even after hearing it multiple times, they still didn’t fully understand. They couldn’t comprehend that He was being completely literal. But thank God—He was.

Recently, a family member asked me why I believe Christianity is true. With so many religions in the world, each with followers so convinced they’re right, how can I be sure?

In that moment, my answers flowed out of me. And it all comes back to this: I believe, with everything in me, that Jesus came to save us, died, and rose again.

I never want to grow tired of the gospel. I never want to lose the weight of what it means. God saw our brokenness and didn’t just leave us to it—He gave us the ultimate solution. The resurrection isn’t just a story. It’s the power of God on full display.

So, let today’s passage sink in. Jesus meant every word. What does that mean for your life?
