Verse: Ephesians 1:15-16
15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.
Devotion
Mandy (my wife) does these insane work out videos and she’s always asking me to do them with her. Last week I finally caved and said I’d do a 15 minute (she does hour long ones) Ab Workout. The next day I told her that I was pretty sure my abs were perfected and I never needed to do one of those videos sent from Satan himself ever again.
I really wish it worked that way, don’t you? One workout – bam – rock hard abs. But like most things in life it takes repetition and commitment. Paul, in this verse, offers us an insight into his daily prayer routine. Think about this, how did one of the most amazing disciples of Jesus practice his faith? He prayed every day for others.
So this leads us to the point. How committed am I to praying for others? Do I say I’ll pray for you, and then pray once? (That’s better than totally forgetting for sure!) Or do I remember to pray consistently for you? He says he “never stops”!
Now I’m not saying you have to pray for someone for the rest of your life. But what if we made a commitment to pray for a week for the same person? Here’s the assignment then:
Let’s open up a note on our phones, and spend a little time sitting with God and asking him for people who need prayer in our life. Then, we’ll write down a couple names that come to our heart, and we’ll commit to “giving thanks and praying for them” every day for a week. Maybe God will share something specific for us to pray about, or maybe not. Maybe we’ll feel led to tell them we’ve been praying for them (I love when people tell me that) or maybe we’ll feel led to keep it secret. Either way, this will be challenge and strengthen our prayer life. And then maybe, just maybe, we’ll keep doing it! What if we always had a list!?
