Thoughts

During this time of slowing down, reflection has come easy. While many of the thoughts are not necessarily uplifting, my mind keeps returning to the blessings right before me. I have been drawn to the comfort of my home, the outdoors, time to relax, read, and laughter with family. It is so easy to get caught up in the next release of information, the impending impact on our lives, and the disconnection with regular routines and relationships. The act of being grateful is natural when we hear good news or accomplish a goal, but Jesus says to practice being thankful “in all circumstances.” To be completely transparent, this command is challenging for me. Grumbling over situations I cannot control is the typical response. Since I have been forced to look around, create alternate routines, and actually be much more present in my home, Jesus has placed it on my heart to redirect my thoughts.

I encourage you to try one or all of the following:

  • Create a list of your blessings, even the small, more mundane ones. Express them to Jesus through prayer on a daily basis.
  • Reach out to those who have touched you, helped you, loved you and share your gratitude. It may be the only uplifting words the person hears that particular day.
  • If grateful thoughts are hard to find, pray for His perspective and an open mind to acquire a thankful heart.

We can praise Jesus for who He is. He promises to be with us every step of the way. We can turn to Him in these troubled times because He holds the future.
