I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me…

Devotion
After all this time when we have been asked to stay at home and stay inside, it seems like some doors are starting to open. We hear about restaurants, gyms, and beauty shops opening but often there is a catch. Restaurants are open for service outside and gyms require masks and social distancing. Beauty shops started with essential workers. What about us non-essential workers with very long hair!

We are excited to see these doors start to open and things start to return to normal, or a new normal. But are we also looking for doors to open for us in our Christian walk? Are we praying for new opportunities to help others and to grow in our faith? We should be even more expectant and excited about the prospects of God opening up doors for us.

Often it starts with opening our hearts to let God work in our lives. If we believe in a God that is “for us, who can be against us” and “works for the good of those who love him”, then we just need to keep our eyes open for those opportunities in life where God is calling us to walk through a door He has opened. It might be as simple as responding to a prompt to call someone you know is alone or having a tough time dealing with the current uncertainties. Or maybe you have heard that someone was just laid off and you decide to bring them a meal or have one delivered.

In times like this, the opportunities are everywhere. Spending a few extra minutes to talk when you encounter a neighbor while on your walk could brighten the rest of her day and yours too. Maybe you have been wanting to donate to the food bank but have been putting it off. Now could be the right time to do that.

It’s all about walking daily in the Spirit and then looking for those open doors. He may be prompting you to talk about CityLight with one of your friends or neighbors. With so many people still fearful and unsure about the future, we have assurance about our future that we can share with them. It can be as easy as asking if they want to tune in to the Sunday live stream. They don’t have to even leave their homes.

It doesn’t get any better than being with God and doing what He has for you this day. Be encouraged knowing that He has a plan and a purpose for you today and every day and is opening doors just for you.
