Verse: John 10:1-4
“Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

Devotion
This morning, I want you to just take a moment and hear the encouragement of Jesus in this passage:

First: Jesus is your shepherd. This means so many things, but most of all it means that he cares for you. He is watching out for you. He is looking out for your best interests. He is also protecting you! He says that he isn’t someone who wants to steal from, or hurt you, he is the one who protects you!

Second: His voice is for you. He is speaking to you, even today, to lead you and guide you and comfort you. Sometimes it can be hard to hear his voice, I know, but it is encouraging to know that it is there. Part of our journey as Christians is learning to see God working, and hear God speaking in our lives.

Third: He is leading you.  He says that his sheep will follow him. That is such an amazing invitation. Of course, we often go our own way, but the encouragement is that he is leading us, if we only will follow. He is leading us to life abundantly. He is leading us to healing, grace, and forgiveness. He is leading us to joy, strength, and comfort.

This is the amazing encouragement of this word picture Jesus used to describe how he leads us.  I invite you to take a moment and reflect on the love of God for you today!

Prayer
