Verse: Ephesians 1:19b-21
That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Devotion
“That power” is for us. This is hard to understand, much less accept. And Christ is the head of the church (us) and we are his body. His fullness. And He fills everything in every way.

Got that?

Yeah, neither do I.

The power that raised Christ from the dead is for us. Available to us. This is overwhelming, but I do have a thought about it…

If we are to be the fullness of the body of Christ, it sure seems like we are going to need some power greater than ourselves. I mean, if we are to be the hands and feet of Christ, we aren’t exactly cut out for the job.

I like to do what I like to do. But what if my actions need to be weighed by another scale? The body-of-Christ scale. This might sound a bit oppressive, or demanding, but Jesus told us that his burden is light. All this has me feeling like I’m on a bit of a yo-yo. And maybe that is the old me and the new me fighting for real estate. But what I know, is that we are called to be more than just selfish humans carving out our own place in this world. We are called to care for others in a world that says “you do you”. We are called to swim upstream. We are promised incredible power to do this job, by the name of Christ Jesus, who’s name is greater than any other. And this fills me with hope.

Prayer
Jesus, by your name and your great power, we want to do the things you have called us to. Will you help us to step in, to answer the invitation to be a part of what you are doing. We definitely can’t do it on our own. Thank you for being a God who has everything we need!
