Verse: 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8

3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

Thoughts
Let’s try to read this passage devotionally. The main point of these verses is pretty obvious, but let’s ask the Lord, “what can I learn about my relationship with you from these verses?”

What sticks out to me is how deeply God cares about me, and about you. You know how you have friends who just ask you surface level questions, and then you have close friends who ask you the hard questions? Why do they ask those hard, uncomfortable, penetrating questions? Because they care about you.

I’ve heard people ask, “why does God care who I sleep with?” The reason is that he cares about every single part of our lives, because he loves us deeply. He cares about what we do “with our body.” He cares about who we are intimate with. He cares about these things because, honestly, they are very important to us as well! And he knows how powerful sex, intimacy, and what we do with our body is.

When you think about it that way, how could God not care about these things?

So as you read this passage today, take comfort in the fact that God loves you so deeply  that he cares about every part of your life. He cares about the nitty gritty. He cares enough to get up in your business. He cares enough to ask you the hard questions. There is nothing about your life—nothing too small or too big—that God doesn’t care about.

And his love for you is a lifeline. It is an anchor leading you to the truest, most meaningful, most profound life.

Prayer
Thank you God that you love me enough to care about every aspect of my life. I am truly grateful and actually blown away by how much you love me. Let me know, and experience, that love today.
