Verse: ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6:9-10‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case—the things that have to do with salvation. God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”

Devotion
In yesterday’s devotion on the preceding five verses, we saw that the author of Hebrews gave a stern warning against falling away from our relationship with Jesus. We learned that the instructions in those verses were meant to be challenging. And that we should continue to work and look for opportunities to love others through our relationship with Jesus.

Reading verses 9 and 10, we see that the author tells the recipients of these words that they have met the challenge. They are continuing to follow Jesus, be directed by the Holy Spirit, know God’s word, and put that knowledge and direction into action. The result was reassurance for them of their salvation from their former sin and former way of life, resulting in eternal life with God. In fact, the author of Hebrews also points out God’s justice – that He sees, knows, and will not forget how they love Him and have demonstrated that love by helping others.

We need this very same reassurance today, in all that we are going through in our lives and this world. God cares for us. He knows how we are trying to follow Jesus. And He sees what we are doing to care for others.

So, have hope in the promises that God has given. He cares about you. He will bring you through your challenges and through your desperate and dark times. He will give you strength and peace in this life, as well as eternal peace and joy in the next. He is just, faithful, and true.

Prayer
Father God, thank you for being just and right. Thank you for your guidance. Thank you also for being gracious and compassionate, caring for us. Thank you for our salvation and new life through Jesus. Thank you for your guidance and reassurance through your Holy Spirit, as we do look to do your good works. Amen.
