Verse: Titus 3:2
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,  to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

Devotion
So much of our faith is lived out in how we treat other people. Even just in this small verse: be ready to do good (to each other), don’t slander (each other), make peace (with each other), be considerate (with each other) and be always be gentle (with each other).

As you’ve read the Bible, have you noticed that trend? It really is not enough to say that we believe in Jesus, we need to show it by how we treat each other. If our faith in Jesus doesn’t radically alter how we treat other people, then something is off with our faith. John says it this way:

“Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.  And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.” (1 John 4:20-21)

That verse should make ALL of us stop and think. Am I being kind to my neighbor? Am I being gentle with the the person at work who doesn’t have friends, or who’s having a hard day? Am I being considerate to people in authority over me? Am I being peaceful with the person who has hurt my feelings?

In a culture that is more divided than united, more argumentative than peaceful, and more concerned for “self” than “other”, can we show up different? What would it look like for us to “shine” like “stars” in a “warped and crooked generation”? (Philippians 2:15)

Let’s be a people who show up different in our families, in our schools, in our workplaces, and on social media. Let’s be a people of peace, love, and gentleness. Let’s let the spirit of Jesus, the way he treats us, flow from us to others.

Prayer
Give me grace, Lord, to treat others the way you have treated me!
