Verse: Colossians 4:5-6
5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Devotion
You never know. That’s the point, I think. You just never know!

You never know when the person you are talking to might be in a moment in life where they really need God. You never know when your words of encouragement could be the difference they are looking for. You never know when your offer to pray for them could change their heart. You never know when your kindness could change their whole perception of Christians, and build a bridge back to God.

It’s a mindset, really. A way of looking at the world that is different because we are followers of Jesus. We don’t just move through this world indifferent to the many people we meet. Anyone from strangers we meet in passing, to acquaintances we are starting to get to know on our kid’s sports team, to people we interact with regularly at work. All these people, we could just mindlessly “pass by” in life. But Jesus calls us to something higher.

He sees every interaction with a person (a person who is a valued child of God created in his image, by the way) as an opportunity to show them God’s love. He sees every conversation as an opportunity to share God’s truth. He sees every relationship as an opportunity to display God’s character. This is how we are the light of the world, and the salt of the earth. Wherever we go, we carry the Holy Spirit in us, and we can allow him to move through us.

You never know. You never know when God will use you to touch someone’s life. So how would it change our lives if we lived like this more often?

Prayer
Help me to see the opportunities that are all around me to show people your love.
