Verse: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Devotion
For the next two weeks we are going to be taking one word at a time from this 1 Corinthians passage about love. The first word that the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write when describing love is “patience.” Love is patient.

What does it mean to you that God’s love is patient with you? Let’s start there, before we start thinking about our love. His love is not in a rush. He is not chomping at the bit, frustrated that we aren’t growing fast enough. His love is patient. He isn’t stressed out or annoyed by the process in our lives. He isn’t easily bored spending time with us. He isn’t easily distracted. His heart is full of love towards you and I. He is fully present and focused on us. He knows what you need, when you need it.

I think this kind of love gives us so much security. It establishes us on a safe and secure foundation. Knowing that his love isn’t fleeting allows us the room to grow without fear of losing God’s love.

Maybe you need to hear this today? Maybe you aren’t very patient with yourself! Maybe you perceive God through your own lens of impatience and so its hard for you to imagine him being patient with you. But this is what your heart needs to hear. He’s not going anywhere. He is with you for the long haul. He is for you, and with you, and his love is “everlasting.” Thank God!

Prayer
God I am so grateful this morning that your love is patient with me. I do not deserve it, but I am so grateful.
