Verse: Psalm 46:1-7
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Devotion
Before my day starts I often just spend a moment thinking through all that lies in front of me, and invite God to walk with me in each circumstance. What does your calendar have for you today?

Do you have an important meeting? A stressful one? A phone call you are worried about?

Is there a project you have to work on but you’ve been putting it off because honestly it’s a lot of work and you aren’t feeling too inspired by it?

Do you have an opportunity? An exciting new venture?

Do you have a LOT on your plate and it feels like probably not enough time in the day? You just started and you already feel behind?

Is someone you love not feeling well? Is someone you love in crisis?

How is your mental health today? Are you feeling especially anxious as you look forward to today?

Are you carrying someone else’s stress? Are you worried for someone else in a way that just keeps invading your thoughts?

No matter what this day holds for you, this Psalm is the perfect place to start. Let God be your refuge and your ever-present help today. Let him guard your heart and be your refuge. Even if the world feels like its falling apart, with God there is a river of peace we can find. We can sit and be still in his presence and know his love and power. In the end, the most important truth is that “the Lord Almighty is with us.”

He is with you today. In all that you face, remember that you are not alone. He is with you and his arms are holding you and carrying you no matter what you face.

Prayer
Thank you God that you are always with me. Be my fortress today. Be my refuge. Help me as I navigate this day. Be with me in every conversation, every decision, every phone call, everything. I am so grateful for you.
