Psalm 118:1
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Devotion
I love this simple verse that is repeated multiple times throughout the book of Psalms. Take a moment to think about this and pray this over your life.
Give thanks! Start your day today giving thanks. Can you spend a moment in prayer thanking God? Start with thanking him for who he is (thank you God that you are loving and kind!) then move to thanking him for what he has done (thank you God for saving me from my sin!). Then you can move to thanking God for people and things you are grateful for in your life because you know every good gift comes from him.
God is Good! After you spend some time in grateful reflection and prayer, take a moment to respond to this truth. God is good. As John says, “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). Isn’t that good news? God is good – we don’t have to worry that he is perpetrating evil or manipulating us or pursuing questionable goals. He is good. Period!
God’s love is forever! More good news. Seriously. His love isn’t contingent on our behavior. His love isn’t based on our ability to earn it, or worship enough ,or serve enough. Nope. His love is a free gift to you and I, no strings attached. And furthermore, it endures forever. You can’t out sin his love, or out run his love, or hide from his love. His love is the most powerful force in the universe. And it is for you. You are loved. Period!
I hope you can take this verse and find some encouragement this morning. I hope it draws you closer to Jesus. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Amen!
