Verse: Psalm 4:6-8
Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?”
Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 Fill my heart with joy
when their grain and new wine abound.
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.

Devotion
This verse is speaking to me today. I love the idea of looking into the face of Jesus. Like looking up to the sun and closing your eyes and feeling the warmth on your face. Can you imagine what that would feel like to feel the light of God’s face shine on you? Basking in the goodness and love of Jesus. Feeling the warmth of his unconditional love. Feeling the his strength and protection over you. For the Psalmist, this feeling is so profound, that his heart is full of joy and he can sleep in peace.

It reminds me of this:

Number 6:22-27
22 The Lord said to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: 24 “‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you; 25 the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’ 27 “So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”

We love to look at the face and into the eyes of the people we love and are talking to. There is something so powerful and personal about it. I wonder how we can do this now in our times with God? How can we “look into his face?” How can we allow his “light to shine on us?”

I know it sounds pretty abstract, but there’s something here that is intriguing. How often do we just sit, with no agenda, and just be with Jesus? I try it often. I know it’s not easy. And I know it can feel uncomfortable. But it’s so good. If you haven’t tried it in a while, I invite you to do this today. Find somewhere quiet and alone and just spend a minute or two meditating on the goodness of Jesus, and allowing him to be with you. Take this verse and think about it, pray it, as you sit with him, and see how it touches your heart afresh!
