Verses: 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; 27
12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
Devotion
Depending on your church tradition that you were raised in, you may have seen demonstrated a very different kind of church experience than what is described here. It may have been communicated (either intentionally or not) that the pastor/priest is the one how is gifted by the God, and the rest of the people just “receive.” This isn’t biblical. While God certainly does appoint teachers and pastors (Ephesians 4) to lead us and help the whole body to grow to maturity, they aren’t the only people with a role. That’s just one role. If we want to become all that God wants us to be, then we need to realize that we all have parts to play in the body of Christ.
So what do you bring to the table? Are you an inviter? Someone who loves to connect people back to God? Are you a bridge builder? Someone who helps people reconcile with each other? Are you compassionate? Someone who sees a need before others normally do, and has a way to care for that need? Are you detail oriented? Someone who loves to make a plan come together? Are you prophetic? Someone who is so sensitive to God’s voice that you hear words for others’ encouragement?
I could go on! We all have something to give! We all are not just an add on, but an integral part of the body of Christ. Do you know this about yourself? Do you believe it? What is God stirring up in your heart to do in the body of Christ? Maybe it’s time to take that first step (if you haven’t already) towards doing that thing that makes you passionate!
