Verse: 1 John 4:15-16
15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him and he in God. 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

Devotion:
The verse starts with a reminder of what it means to be a believer. When we confess that Jesus is Lord, we receive the Holy Spirit and then God abides in us. As we walk our lives with the Lord, we come to know Him more and more. As our relationship grows, we learn more about His character and His love for us. As we’ve dug into in previous verses and devotions, we’ve learned that God is the true definition of selfless love. He displays the purest and strongest form of love we will ever know. As we walk through our daily lives with Him, we become more and more like Him. Over time, our hearts should be softened towards the broken world around us so that we can become more loving towards others.

So, my question for you to sit with today is: How are we showing the world that He abides in us and we abide in Him? God calls us to be the light of the world, a city set on a hill (Matthew 5:14-16). We are meant to stand out by displaying the attributes of Christl. The Holy Spirit is meant to work and shine through us to show love to a fallen broken world. How are we allowing Him to use us this way? Are we creating space to let His love reflect to others?

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for making your love for us a reciprocal relationship. You abide in us as we abide in You, as soon as we confess that You are Lord. Thank you for showing me what true love is. God, use me today to show others your selfless love. Help me to seek out opportunities in which you can shine and show a dark and broken world what it looks like for us to abide in one another. Thank you Lord, I love you. Amen
