Verse: Matthew 7:26-27
26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Devotion
Have you ever tried to build a sand castle too close to the water? It just keeps having it’s foundation swept away. No matter how hard or how fast you work, it keeps getting swept away.
This is the great comfort of this passage. As followers of Jesus we can rest in knowing he is our sure foundation. We don’t have to strive, we don’t have to perform, we don’t even have to have all the answers. We just need to follow him and trust him.
There’s a great old song by Keith Green called “He’ll take care of the rest.” I love that idea. We seek first the Kingdom of God, we put into practice his teachings by the power of his Spirit, and he takes care of the rest. He will be our foundation. He will be our support. He will be our guide. He will be our protector. He will be our comforter.
Lean into this truth today. If he is your foundation, you can rest in the truth that he will take care of the rest! You don’t have to strive, to perform, or to be perfect all the time.
