Verse: Matthew 8:16-17
16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.”

Devotion
There are times in my life where my actions don’t line up with my beliefs. Does that ever happen to you? Specifically, I believe that God heals today, but I often pray for healing as a last resort instead of as my first “go to.”

However, just like in this passage, Jesus still heals today. He still delivers. He still brings freedom. And I wonder how often I just miss the opportunity because I’m too focused on earthly remedies to really take time to pray and ask for a supernatural one.

Of course we all know it’s more complicated than that. There are times when God chooses to heal miraculously and other times he works in other ways. But we get the cart before the horse if we decide NOT to pray because we THINK he won’t answer the prayer in the way we want.

Our job is to pray, his job is to heal.

So as I read this passage this morning I am inspired to pray more often. I would love for my FIRST reflex about sin and sickness to be prayer – and everything else is secondary. How about you?
