14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet. 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.
Devotion
In these verses, Jesus sends His disciples out to share His message. But He also prepares them for rejection, instructing them to move on if they are not welcomed. Jesus highlights that a future judgment will come for those who reject His message.
A cornerstone of Christian faith is hope. We hope for better days, for changed circumstances, and for the promise of heaven where there will be no more pain. This hope also extends to the belief that justice will be served. God will bring fairness in His perfect time.
The disciples faced people who opposed them, even though they were bringing God’s blessings. Jesus didn’t call them to get more confrontational or even dwell on the rejection. Instead, He encouraged them to keep moving forward, trusting that God would handle justice in the end. This teaches us that our task is not to force people to accept the message but to share it faithfully and trust God with the outcome.
It doesn’t come naturally for us to brush off rejection, especially when we’re mistreated. But Jesus is calling us to rise above that. He’s asking us to lean into our emotional intelligence—to make the conscious choice to trust in God’s bigger plan. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can choose to act with wisdom and grace, even in difficult situations.
So, let’s be strong and continue spreading God’s love, even when it’s not welcomed. Our hope isn’t just in how people respond, but in the certainty that God sees our efforts and will make all things right in His time.
